Well, I'm getting married to the woman of my dreams. We have decided to save a little money, buy a place to live and look after a few tykes. The only difference is our little place is a 30 ft. sail boat and our few tykes are 50 different nautical maps. I'm sorry we aren't looking for travel partners, just advice. I'm not sure how to change that on my post.
Many people these days seem to think that they need to save for ten or fifteen years before they can do a trip like this. I have traveled the world for the last three years and this is just not true. Now you do need to save a nice chunk of change so make sure you stream line your expenses cutting out the unnecessary things. Well thats enough about that here is the plan for the trip.
HOPEFULLY, starting October 15th 2014, my wife and I will sail a boat from Europe to Morocco and on to Cape Verde of the coast of Western Africa. From there we will sail, following the trade winds, to Northern Brazil. Skirt up the coast hitting a few countries along the way to Panama. From there we will navigate the INSANE paper work nightmare that is the Panama Canal. After lots of finger crossing and holding thumbs we will end up on the other side. Its just less of a headache than Ice cold waters with 10-20 ft swells that await you at Cape Horn.
From there we will sail for the Galapagos Islands and on to Ecuador. Sailing down the coast to Chile to restock for the voyage across the Pacific. We will sail from Chile to Easter Island, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Australia and Indonesia. One we have reached Indonesia we will be almost finished. Just the Indian Ocean left to navigate.
Starting in Indonesia we will sail south west to the Keeling Islands and on to Mauritius. After hitting Madagascar we will head to South Africa, and go around the Cape of Good Hope to Cape Town. We will then hit Namibia on our way to St. Helena Island and back to Cape Verde. This will complete a full circumnavigation of the globe by boat.
I am looking for any information or helpful links. I am of course, still in the planning phase of this trip. I am looking for information on nautical charts, directions, distances, best times to sail these areas, dock and registration procedures in these places and any other information people can offer.
