Name Biking the Heart of the Rockies
Participants will board an Amtrak train in Denver, Colorado at approximately 8:05 AM. The train winds its way through tunnels, into canyons, and around mountains on its way to Glenwood Springs. Upon arrival in "the Springs" at approximately 2:00 PM, participants will board a shuttle bus to the hotel.
The hotel is centrally located near restaurants, shopping, parks, a tram to the top of a cave near the top of a mountain, and Glenwood's famous hot springs. One day's entry to the hot springs is included in the price of your tour, so you may want to partake on this day.
Day 2 will involve a beautiful bike ride on the Glenwood Canyon Trail. This trail is mostly cement and winds its way beside the mighty Colorado River. Along the way, participants can choose to take a hike to an alpine lake or just enjoy the bike path all day. There is plenty to see and do in this majestic canyon.
Day 3 will include a bike ride from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, Colorado. Throughout most of the ride, you will be on a gravel trail that follows the course of the old Rio Grande Railroad line. You will be treated to panoramic views of mountains, rivers, and valleys while enjoying the company of your fellow bikers. If you want to stop in a small Colorado town for a coffee, go for it. You have the pleasure of following your own itinerary, riding at your own pace, and going as far as you'd like. At many different points, you even have the option to load your bike on a public bus and letting someone else do the driving. Once you reach Aspen, you will have the opportunity to browse, graze, and ogle. It's quite a town, and you'll enjoy exploring it on your bike or on foot. Whether you eat a whole meal or just enjoy a quick gelato, your stomach will thank you for spending time in Aspen.
After you've had your fill of the glamorous ski resort, you've got the option of returning by bike (Are you crazy?) or bus.
You may choose to have a romantic or solitary dinner or join the group for a frolicking Rocky Mountain meal. Either way, remember that you've always got the option to spend the evening soaking in the hot springs.
On Sunday, the Amtrak train is scheduled to depart Glenwood Springs at 12:10PM and arrive back in Denver at 6:58PM. By the way, Happy Mother's Day.
