My friend and I are backpacking through South America and are wanting to compact a once in a lifetime experience without a lot of money. Here is the tentative schedule for our plans:

January 5: Amazon Rainforest Eco-village for 1 week
Cost is $10/day = $70
All accomodations included.

After that we will travel to RESERVA RIO GUAYCUYACU to stay for 30 days to learn permaculture, animal and land conservation. We will be staying in a volunteer house with all accomodations including food.
Cost: $300/month

Next on the agenda will be to go to Peru:
In Pisco, Peru we will volunteer for 30 days with an organization that provides all meals and all accomodations. We will help a community there that has been affected by the earthquake that destroyed their homes and way of life. Wonderful way to give back and see more of the country.
Cost: $5/day. We are staying 30 days or longer. 30 days would be $150.

All work and no play is no fun, so we will be traveling to an eco-village near Lima where all accomodations will be included. We will learn about vegetarian cooking, yoga, organic farming, and local travel with other volunteers. There is a nearby beach called Chacra y Mar for fun.
Cost: $10/day and we plan on staying for 2 weeks = $140

We are still sketching out plans for Chile, but whatever it is it will be free or next to free. Santiago is a definite! One of the other definite plans is to go to the San Pedro Atacama Desert for a few days to do some stargazing at the driest place on earth!
Cost: ? TBD

Last, but not least our plans will lead us into Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to help with some kids at an orphanage. All meals and accomodations are included. The weekends are yours to do as you wish and there is much to be explored.
Cost: $0

If anyone is interested in going on this wild experience definitely let me know. We would like to travel and experience other things in between that is low cost so that we can all maximize this trip to the fullest!

Lauren Love the itinerary, sounds incredible. I hope you to get to go out to some of the more remote communities in Pisco that were destroyed as well, we've heard many stories while being here in Cusco for the last 2 months & would've loved to go there. Def a stop in Atacama is a must!

Worldtraveler119 Lauren we decided to stay in Cusco when we visit Peru. Is that far from Pisco, since we will be working there? Are you still in Cusco? You can send a private message if you like.

Lauren Hey there. Yes we're still here in Cusco, probably for another week then moving on. Pisco is much closer to Lima (3-4 hrs south by bus I think) so it might be better to stay there and just plan a visit to Cusco?
