Canada is the second largest country in the world and the largest in North America. Renowned worldwide for its vast, untouched landscape, its unique blend of cultures and multifaceted history, Canada is a major tourist destination and one of the world's wealthiest countries.
Canada prefers to consider and define itself as a mosaic of cultures and peoples. Canadians are used to living and interacting with people of different ethnic backgrounds on a daily basis and will usually be quite friendly and understanding if approached in public. You will never look out of place or feel like an unusual sight while traveling Canada, although this will be less so in rural areas such as the Saskatchewan countryside. Canada is very much a multi-cultural nation and Toronto may very well be the most multi-cultural city on the planet.
We lived in Montreal for three months between June and September 2010 and it really became a second home to us. We fell in love with the city, the bi-lingual culture and the weekly festivals. But... it was the summer. Everyone kept telling us that we have to live through a winter before saying that we loved it. And we plan to do that, one day, when we're ready to settle our travelling pants for a while.
After staying a few nights in a crazy hostel, we found a cute apartment in the heart of the Plateau and experienced the many festivals and best local places to eat in the city.
We visited Toronto a few times and even spent a night in jail in Ottawa.
