Kristi I hiked the Inca Trail in August 2008. I used Yure Chavez, a local Cusco operator. The porters and guide he employed were amazing. You should consider using him. http://yurechavez.blogspot.com/

Lauren Hi everyone, tour operator Intrepid Travel have just offered this group a 5 for 5 or a 10 for 10 discount on one of their Inca trail tours. Meaning if you can get a group of 5 together for the same dates, they'll give 5% off their normal tour cost. And if you can get 10 people, they'll give a 10% discount (plus you can customise the WHOLE trip with 10).
They have quite a range of tours that include the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, so check out their website for the full list: http://www.intrepidtravel.com
Post a comment here if you're interested and what dates suit you.

tkhan Lauren - i have started an inca trip with the nov dates. it's called Best of Peru & Bolivia - Inca Trail & Amazon ! I also checked with the operators for peru and bolivia and they say the dates work well because rain will not be an issue for the first few weeks of nov and the temp will not be too cold either ! So if anyone's interested, look me up on my trip !

Lauren Oh, I didn't realise it was rainy season in Dec/Jan, and with the land slides last season it's probably not the ideal time to go. I've also changed my travel plans a bit and most likely spending the rest of this year in North America and next year in Asia. davyvr or tkhan - do either of you want to start another Inca trip with the dates that suit you?

davyvr I'm going in may-june 2011, also to avoid the rain season & high season. If anyone would be interested, let me know.

tkhan Hey guys, like everyone else, this is my must do and am planning this trip myself. However, not sure if you know but Dec, Jan are wet/rainy season in Peru/Bolivia and is not the best time to visit. Trail is closed in Feb for cleaning. Ofcourse, high season ends in Sept, so oct or nov is a much better time to go - climate, crowds and cost wise ! Wat do you guys think about nov ?

Lauren Timing sounds good mansi and Suzy.
Now the next step would be deciding whether we want to just join the same tour operated trip or hire a local guide just for this group. Any suggestions? Tour operators that have Inca trail tours are: GAP, Intrepid, BikeHike, Peru Treks & Adventure, AllTrek and many more.
Actually before this we should decide on the route as there are quite a few. I would prefer to go on whichever route is the least crowded, even if that adds another a day or so to the trek.
