Suzy Hi everyone, as Lauren mentioned below, the trail is closed in February so I've changed the dates to January but I'm sorta flexible. When are you all wanting to do it?
mansi & sambo10 - I'm just going to try and get in shape and probably get some exercise on stairs (as I heard there are painfully a lot of them on the trail). I think it will be strenuous, but not like you have to train for months in advance. If you're fit and healthy, I think it will be fine.

Jon Hey, i just got back from hiking the Inca Trail en route to Machu Picchu 10 days ago (I did the 4 day / 3 night trip), and just wanted to let those interested know that this trip is a lot more strenuous then the rating state. You can hire a porter to carry your bags, up to 25kg, for about $100 USD. Even without a hiking backpack, it will be tough but definitely do-able. I recommend this trip to EVERYONE as even those out-of-shape can complete this hike. The landscape will remain postcard perfect ingrained in my memory... Hope this post helps those out!

Lauren Hi guys, I'm really keen to do this trek too! Todd & I will be in Buenos Aires from Jan-Mar next year and are wanting to do Aconcagua in Argentina & Inca Trail in Peru. BUT something to consider is that the Inca Trail is actually closed for cleaning every Feb, so you'd have to move your trek date to earlier or later. I'm very keen to do it either in Jan or March? Maybe March would be better (right after the track has it's yearly spring clean!)
Elizabeth - for reference, tour operators charge AUD 800-1200 for an 8 day Inca trek, but I think we could get a bit cheaper through a local guide. I'll check it out.

Todd I met a few avid travellers over the weekend and they'd all trekked to Machu Picchu and highly recommended it. It actually sounds quite strenuous, which is great. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is keen to do this trip early 2011. I want to climb Aconcagua in Jan/Feb, so may be in South America anyway.
