India is the seventh largest country in the world by area and, with over a billion people, is second only to China in population. It's an extremely diverse country, with vast differences in geography, climate, culture, language and ethnicity across its expanse, and prides itself on being the largest democracy on Earth.

We travelled to India in February 2011 to join one of the group trips a user created right here on Globetrooper, called the Great Circular Indian Railway Challenge. It was a 12,000 km, 2-week circumnavigation on the Indian Rail System for charity with 20 strangers.
