Name Khardungla 2014
This is a call to all you thrill seekers around the world. I have had this trip brewing in the back of my mind for a while now and I think it’s time to take a sip and taste it. Come join me on an iron horse (motorcycle) trip to Khardungla Pass in northern India. Khardungla Pass is known as the highest motor-able road in the world, claimed to be at 18380 feet (it’s not really the highest pass, but, close enough). At the end of the day it’s the company that’s going to make the difference not the elevation.
It will be a 9 day, one way, motorcycle trip from Ambala, India to Leh/Ladakh, India. If you don't know where this is, well look it up on Google. The $4K price tag for this trip is for the people leaving from the US, like me. For anyone who joins from India of course it will cost a lot less as you would not have the large cost of airfare from NY to India, which is approximately $1500.
We would be flying from NY on July 25th, 2014 and reaching Delhi on July 25th, 2014. Then we take a car ride from Delhi to Ambala (approximately 4 hours). Reach Ambala by evening. Spend the night at my dear friends Johnny & Sherry's place (Johnny is also the Royal Enfield Motorcycle dealer whom we would be renting the motorcycles from), or we can crash at my aunt's place as well. She is eagerly waiting for me to come visit.
The next day we will go to the dealership and familiarize ourselves with our iron horses (Royal Enfield 500's) and maybe feed them some 'chaara'. You better find your favorite horse, cause you will be riding it for the next 9 days. There will be a support vehicle to carry all our trip necessities and a mechanic, just in case the any one of our motorcycles break down.
We will begin our trip from Ambala early on Monday the 28th and we will be riding to Khardungla Pass for the next adventurous 9 days. The trip will include lodging and tent camping on the way. The weather could be cold up there so we need to be prepared for it. I will send out a list suggested items for this trip once I find out who is coming.
On the 9th day (August 6th)we will fly back from Leh to New Delhi.
Spend our last 2 days in New Delhi and fly back to NY on August 9th.
This trip is not for the occasional riders out there. Be prepared, Indian roads are nothing like the smooth American paved roads. This is going to be a hard rugged ride for 9 days where your crotch will take a lot of beating, your hands will be numb, your face will be cold and you will wonder 'why did I join this trip again?'. Its cause you are a thrill seeker THAT'S WHY! NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!
