Name Let's plan to climb Mt Everest... anyone?

I'm looking for anyone with aspirations to climb Mt Everest within the next 3 years. Of course you don't have to be fit and ready right now, but you'd have to be willing to begin preparation.

I've already climbed Kili and plan to climb Aconcagua nearly next year. After that I'd like to progress to some of the pure Alpine summits, such as Mt Blanc, Mt Elbrus, Island Peak (Himalaya), and finally Ama Dablam.

I'm flexible if you want to push it out another year or so, or even bring it closer a year (maybe). So let me know if you're even remotely interested so we can at least discuss it. The climb may not eventuate, but I'd like to get the conversation started with enthusiastic adventurers.

Sunny Hi Todd, your plan sounds impressive. I'm personally fascinated by the thought of doing the same one day, but not sure if I'm able join yet in 2013. So far I've been just hiking in the Alps, but would like to move on to some more challenging routes in the future. Anyhow, I'm going to take a course on ice climbing / winter mountaineering next winter and will keep on training mountaineering skills next summer too. I'm based in northern Europe so keep me informed when your Mt Blanc trip starts to take shape, I'd be glad to join!

Sunny Hi there, I checked out the AMS website and the course and it sounds good, but Alaska is a bit far away to me :) I've got two alternatives both located in Scandinavia, will propably choose either one of those. The link posted by Vagabond regarding the Mt Blanc trip seems promising!

Todd I've just emailed AMS to find out the total cost of the 6-day course. It's hiring the gear which I think will cost a bit. But let's see. Will get back with details soon.

Todd I've uploaded the kit rental price list here: http://globetrooper.com/notes/wp-content/uploads/MTC_Personal_Checklist.pdf. I haven't calculated exact cost, but it seems around $200 extra to hire gear. Thought some items must be purchased in addition to those rented.

iot Hey what are the odds of someone who has no experience whatsoever, but a really big dream of doing this, to make it for this trip? it's stupid.. i just dont know where to start though..

Skylar Givens It's completely possible. Start climbing/hiking a few times a week with a weighted pack. Find a local group that does frequent trips and can show you the ropes. Run or bike everyday for cardio. Also, it is a good idea to start saving... a guided Everest expedition will run you anywhere from $30,000 to $75,000 or more. Skylar Givens I am already climbing Everest in 2012 but I'd be happy to team up with others on some training climbs. Right now I am focusing on the Cascade volcanoes and potentially some Mexican volcanoes in November. Next year is Aconcagua, Denali and Cho Oyu... along with anything else I can squeeze in between. Anyone interested in these?

Todd Hey Jessi. Have you done any trekking at high altitude before? We're talking about climbing Aconcagua as the first prep climb. Aconcagua has less technical routes, but is still very high and needs preparation itself. There's also some talk of doing a mountaineering prep course in Alaska, France or NZ. Where are you based?

Jessi Ive climb MT.Grant over by seattle I got into rock climbing and it's been a major part of my life now... But this has alway's been my dream and im base out of washington

Todd Hey Vanessa; great to hear from you. Maybe we should get together for Mont Blanc in 2011. Have never been to Chamonix, but it sounds like a nice place to call 'lower base camp' :)

Vanessa Mt Blanc sounds great - would be a first for me too. If don't manage the mountain there's always the cable car back to Chamonix :P vagabond - the climbalaska course looks amazing (and slightly terrifying...) thanks for the link. Would definitely want to do some high altitude training to adjust - last time I got a bit headachy above 4500m - might have to head to NZ for that. :)

Todd Hey Christopher. It's just an idea at this stage, but I know I'm pretty serious about working up to it. What are your thoughts? Do you have previous mountaineering experience? Mike (mpreihs) and I have trekked Kili and we're keen to do Aconcagua next. I know that's a far cry from Everest, but it's a start.

mpreihs Hi Todd, This has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while. I have done Kili and the trek to the Everest Base Camp. Aconcagua is next. Maybe we can hook up and do it winter 2011? That would be 2 down - 5 to go :)
