Lithuania’s climate is maritime and continental, with cool summers and cold winters. Lithuanians are a Baltic people, descended from the ancient tribes who once lived in the region. Lithuanian is the official language of Lithuania. The country has a strong Roman Catholic tradition, but there is also a significant minority of Protestants. Lithuania is a member of the European Union and NATO.
