Siracusa: Nature, Culture and Stunning Seafront Villas

If you want a busy holiday full of beautiful landscapes and rich culture, Sicily is the place for you! Specifically, the area around Siracusa is a must if you plan to enjoy Sicily’s beaches.

An unmissable place to visit is Vendicari Nature Reserve. This place is incredible and there is so much to do. There is a fabulous beach with clear blue water. There is also scuba diving, snorkelling, hiking, canoeing, birdwatching and awesome Hellenic ruins!

In Siracusa, there is the Greek theatre, the Roman amphitheatre, the marvellous quarries, Arethusa’s Fountain and the Temple of Apollo. Siracusa is a real gem and the whole city was named an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

As for food, the fresh and locally-caught fish are unlike any other fish in the world. And everyone who visits this place must try the gelato made with the famous Noto almonds. Not to mention the many wonderful restaurants such as Il Veliero in Ortigia and Il Giardino degli Aranci in Siracusa. These are both places where you can taste typical local dishes.

We were looking for a special place to stay near the famous beach of Fontane Bianche, that we had heard so much about. And, lucky us, we found Hibiscus: one of the exclusive Sicily villas on the seafront. The villa’s garden was full of hibiscus flowers, had a breathtaking location and was full of great amenities. The villa had a barbecue, pizza oven and a terrace with views of the Ionian Sea. Also, there was a solarium where we gazed at the stars every night!

In short, it was the perfect choice for those who want a relaxing holiday of sun and sea, but who also want to be in nature with the added perk of access to cultural tours and activities. We had an unforgettable visit to Noto. It is easy to understand why this place is so famous. Its churches and palaces are so amazing they actually call the city a “stone garden” because it is a lush Baroque masterpiece.

Do not forget to taste the almond cream. Really, the almonds in this part of Sicily are fabulous. And, we should mention, the end of May is a great time to see the parades of flowers and enjoy the wonderful days of events and concerts.
