So… What is Globetrooper?

Our primary concern when launching Globetrooper was that people wouldn’t know what it was all about. We thought they’d think, “Oh, this is nice, but what does it do?” We built numerous hints into the interface, but here’s the full explanation.

What is Globetrooper?

Globetrooper is an initiative to bring people together to travel together.

More specifically, Globetrooper is a tool for adventurous travellers to create trips and invite people from all over the world to join them.

The Globetrooper website also contains detailed information about about places and adventures in the Globe Guide. For example, you can read about the Middle East or about Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

Why is global travel important?

Life is about experience. And staying in one place limits our experience. Without the perspective of different places and different people, our life is relatively one dimensional.

For example, imagine that all you knew was vanilla ice cream. Then suddenly you discovered the local ice creamery with more than 100 different flavours.

That’s global travel; an awakening to unlimited possibilities.

So, maximising life is just about hopping on a plane?

No, not exactly. For anyone who has travelled a little, they know that global travel is challenging and sometimes unrewarding. Like everything, it takes a little thought and effort to make the most of it.

There’s nothing wrong with hopping on a plane and only visiting tourist attractions. But to make the most of global travel, it’s vital to immerse yourself in local culture.

How does Globetrooper help?

By travelling with other people whom have similar travel aspirations, you can work together to make the most of a trip. You can put your minds together for ideas to meet and live with locals and/or discover untouched and untrodden places.

Even more than that, self-planned travel (often using local guides) gives you the flexibility to really encounter the unknown. Unlike packaged travel, you can go where you want, when you want, with whomever you want.

But why travel with others?

For many reasons: to make new friends, for increased safety in difficult regions, to learn from each other, to put ideas together for more rewarding trips, and of course, to share your most memorable experiences.

Travelling with others, especially complete strangers, adds another dimension to your Trips. On occasion, it can be testing, but by far, these trips can be the most rewarding.

What do I do now?

You can start by browsing our Globe Guide to get a feeling for what’s possible. You can then browse our user-created Trips to find one that suits your aspirations. Or create your own Trip and invite friends, family and even strangers. You can then collaborate with the group to build the trip of a lifetime.
