Name ROAD TRIP! (UK - West Africa)
Hoping to DRIVE as far south as The Gambia hugging the African coast as we go. Departing the UK to France, picking up some cheap fuel in Luxembourg and then working our way down to the south of Spain for a ferry to Tangier, Morocco. Morocco onwards is where the 'adventure' begins! After spending the night in a hotel near Tangier we'll spend a long day traveling south simply seeing how far we can get before sunset. The roads through the west Sahara are all paved and in 'OK' condition - except a 3km stretch on the border of Mauritania which is a disputed territory which no country officially owns. This area is a little worrying but it's only 3km, so how hard can it be? As soon as we reach Senegal the real african culture comes out. People are all dressed coulourfully and things start looking less deserty. Then we reach Gambia, which is a country I have flown to many times! It's a lovely country filled with lovely people and lovely beaches. We'll spend roughly 7 days here and then travel back to Europe, whether that be the way we drove on the way there or not.
I'm looking for people who either want to drive in their own vehicle or would be willing to travel with me. If you can speak French that'll be great, I just about know how to say 'Hello, my name is...', and that's about it.
I don't want any money but would be appreciate some help with finances (the trip won't cost anywhere near as much as you'd expect).
I'd be taking my 2012 VW Golf, nothing special, but I think it'd make it there and back in one piece...
I'd love to hear from anyone who is willing to come or anyone who has driven a similar route before and has any advice. I look forward to hearing from people.
