Hello! I'm a 26-year old Brit and am self-employed. I run a handful of websites and providing can work from anywhere in the world.

I'm looking to combine some work with my passion for travel, for an extended period around the world. Since I'll be earning and don't need to worry above holiday leave, I'm eager to travel slowly, renting apartments, and being really immersed into different cultures and places.

Finding friends who share the same flexibility (vs. short holidays or a fast-paced 3-month sabbatical) is tough, so I'd love to see if anyone on GlobeTropper shares similar ideas.

I've travelled a bunch around Europe and have my eyes on heading East, with some time in Thailand, Bali, and Japan. Then maybe some paradise island living, finishing off with some time in San Francisco and New York. Just some rough ideas and I'm totally flexible. Visa restrictions would mean that I'd not really stay in any one country for more than 3-months at a time; I'd really look at perhaps 1-month in each place, taking maybe even a year out for the whole trip!

Would definitely only suit someone who has the ability to also work on their laptop wherever they go, or has some nice savings! It's a fantastic way for self-employed folk to save money whilst traveling the world.

Johnson Smithee puuhhh , im so jealouse ..i also have a nice income online and can work from anywhere in the world. But lately found a nice doggy who was living in the street. So now my travel plans stucked but thats okay, at least its the best doggy in the world. Wish you all Happy Holidays and a lot of fun at all places

Jaxon Hi Keith, how you travelling? I'm glad I joined globetrooper because it really is the place to find like minded people. I am in the exact same boat as you, setting up an online income stream now so that I can sustain my global adventures up to 3 months at a time, starting early next year. Ann D I am also interested in slow-paced travel, particularly in SE Asia. Let me know if you plan on spending any considerable amount of time there and when. I am looking for travel partners to split costs and make my savings last.

Keith Mander SEA is a fantastic place to slow-travel. It's cheap, beautiful and has amazing food, history, culture, and so on. You need to be mindful about internet availability and speeds if you're wanting to do serious work as you travel. Have you made any plans yet? I'm currently in Bali and will stick it out here/general area for a while.

Todd Hey guys, we just spent 3 months in Thailand. Internet was super fast in the cities. In Chiang Mai we were getting 20Mbps in a back-street pub. Chiang Mai is full of free WiFi. About 100x more than in New York City. Seriously. India is much tougher though. You really need to buy a 3G stick. But if you stay in cities, it's relatively fast.

PMaz11 Hi Keith, I'm also from the UK and having taken voluntary redundancy from IT, spent some months applying for replacement jobs and trying to set up as self-employed without success, I have decided to take a break, because I can. I can't bring a business model for location-independent self-employment to the mix, but given good internet connections there is a lot of online training I could catch up on. So I am interested to get in touch about possible overlap.

PMaz11 Hi Keith, my plan to do a RTW trip in one large chunk has had to change into several smaller trips, for various reasons. This might not get all the way around the world. I'm currently moving house. After that I'm going to spend time in Canada and the US (North to South). After returning to the UK for a required break I am aiming to head to Thailand and start a gradual southwards-oriented journey towards Australia, hopefully avoiding the worst of the winter in the UK. That part of the trip is not well defined yet.

Lauren Hey Keith. Great idea and trip. Congrats on becoming location independent! Todd and I (Globetrooper founders) have been travelling this way for the last 10 months. We're in India at the moment for 3 months, but we've been thinking later this year we might head to Thailand and stay for a few months. Maybe we'll be there at the same time?

Lauren One tip I can give you about researching places to go - check forums for internet speed and connectivity. Especially if you're working on a few websites while you travel, it can be really frustrating if you can't find a decent internet connection.

Todd Hey Keith. Lauren makes a good point about Internet speed. South America was fine, but India is a bit more tedious since you need to use 3G and almost nowhere has WiFi (except Mumbai). Looking forward to Thailand though; apparently as cheap as Internet, but with decent Internet speeds.
