SE Asia, no more 9-5 - Group Travel

IrishRover Hey sorry I didnt reply sooner, I forgot I had this profile. I have looked hard at Indonesia but it seems like a very tight schedule on quite a short visa. What did you have in mind? ?

IrishRover Hi there, thanks yeah the plans are coming along well, Ive decided to buy a bicycle when I land in Bangkok (july) and cycle to Ko Samui, then across to Phuket, and down into Malaysia and cycle down the east coast there to Singapore. Then I want to go to the other part of Malaysia (Borneo) and travel up Sabah. from there then I'll go to Veitnam, Cambodia and Laos but the movement there will be decided closer to the time. Sounds hectic right? Well its not really Im going to take my time and travel at a slow pace with many stops in small towns and villages and plenty of days breaks or 2-3 day breaks doing some fun stuff like National parks, definte trip to the rainforest in Borneo, climbing mountains etc and also some chilling out if I come across worthy place (deserted beaches and the like lol). What about you? have you decided to do it?? :)

emcginnity Hey that sounds incredible :) It does sound hectic but in a good way ha. At the moment I really have no idea what to do, I've just been made redundant so thinking if I get a couple of jobs and work until mid year then I'm off travelling for as long as possible; deffo thinking I'm going to start off in SE Asia and work from there, all the adventure type stuff sounds amazing - i.e. hiking, rainforests, climbing mountains etc; anything really :) xx

IrishRover Aww nightmare about the redundancy! Tho maybe a blessing in disguise if it pushes you to see the world. From what Ive read you will have no problems finding those activities in SE Asia, even if you just went to one country, for a week you could probably do all that stuff lol. Plus if your looking for as long as possible this seems the cheapest option. Well keep me updated of where your at with your plans as I am planning to go in July. Im making a map on goprotravelling.com with a general outline of my plans for thailand + Malaysia, should give a good idea of prices and activities which I will share if anyone fancies to meet up a some points or hit the road with me for a while.

Cassie This is a pretty awesome plan! I would love to join you for a bit or until I run out of money haha. I am super flexible on plans - just looking for some adventure/fun/relax time...really looking to travel with someone for safety reasons, and it would be much more fun than going solo. Would it be alright with you if I tagged along for some of the way?

IrishRover Hey Cassie glad you like it and yeah its going to have all that! Feel free to join in, it is more fun travelling with someone and from reading up it splits the cost of accomodation.
Visas are the really the main constriction so if you want to go to certain destinations here's and idea of where ill be
July 13 - Thailand (30 days free)
-Malaysia (90 days free) 1 month peninsular- 2months Borneo(this will be where Im planning to volunteer, proper rainforest trek and climb a mountain)
Nov - Vietnam (30 days £30)
Dec - Cambodia (30 days £25)
Jan 14 - Laos (30 days £30) then while here get a tourist visa for anothe 6 days in Thailand £40. (exploring northern Thailand)
Repeat as much as possible lol.

I have a map below for the first month in Thailand, its just to get an idea of how quick il be moving and a few places to chill out (ive ommitted phuket as it may be two much hassle but ive left a few days less than the 30 so it may come back in) Most of the days biking are only about 40-60 km so should be no more than 3 hrs and bikes can always be put on buses or trains if behind or tired just adds to the cost.
