Hi there! I'm a 25 year old Australian thinking about doing a short tour of Tibet before heading into Nepal in September 2010. I'm looking at itineraries from Wind Horse http://www.windhorsetour.com and Snow Lion http://www.snowliontours.com/. Wind Horse offers shorter tours of around 4-5 days in and around Lhasa, the capital, while Snow Lion has longer ones, more around the 11 day mark, that extend beyond the capital to some of the regional areas, including Mt Everest Base Camp.

Wind Horse has quoted me around $400 pp for their tour, including accommodation and some food (you can find links to their Lhasa tours on their website), while Snow Lion's price is more around the $500-600 mark (depending on numbers), not including accommodation or food, but that can be done for around $30 a day. I'm planning on catching the train to Lhasa from Beijing around the 15th, but alternatives would be flying in, or crossing the border from Nepal. I'm semi-flexible with dates; hoping to get into Nepal by late September/early October to hike the Annapurna Sanctuary trek.

If you're interested in touring around Tibet with other travellers (note that since the 2008 troubles you can't get into Tibet unless you're part of a tour group) and keen to keep your costs down, don't hesitate to contact me and see if our plans match up!

bruno77 Hi I' ve joined in a tour in Tibet with Wind Horse tour in august. This travel agency is based in Chengdu so the tour is arranged by another small agency based in Lhasa.(If you are interested I' ve email address of my guide)The tour was amazing and a great esperience. If I had booked straight with the travel agency based in Lhasa I would have save money but doesn't matter!!. bye Bruno

tuller Hi "Inthesky". We are a danish couple, who are going on a big trip from aug. 2010 - may/june 2011. Going from trans. mongolian, mongolia, tibet, nepal, thailand, Micronesia and Indonesia. We too are looking for someone to travel with trough Tibet -caused of the great chineese restrictions. Dont we love it! And its always great to have nice company during. We are coming from mongolia 30th of sep. Is that too late for you? Your trip sounds like exactly what we are looking up as well. Nancy Hey there, I am also planning a trip to Tibet this summer, but maybe it's a bit earlier than your date. I want to fly into China on 1st August, then directly head to Tibet after 2 days preparation. Is it possible for you to change your plan? I have to leave China before 25th August.

My travel include Lhasa, trekking from Ganden to Samye, Shoton and Nagchu Horse Racing Festival, and the most important monastery in U contry. Msi @Nancy - my friend and I are planning a trip to China around the same time, altho thinking of going to Tibet near end of trip as we fly out of HK on 8/25 and will go there after Tibet. Have you settled your plans yet? Not sure which is better snowlion or windhorse.

Jessica_Alice Hey! I am looking to be Tibet around this time (although no flights or concrete plans have been made yet). I am not so sure if you can only get through Tibet via China? My plan was India & Tibet - I have been to Nepal before so may not go there again. Let me know if you are still looking for folks to travel with :) Jess Either of the tours you posted would suit though

inthesky729 Hi Jessica! You can get into Tibet via China, but you require the appropriate permits, which have to be obtained through a tour group/guide. What kind of itinerary were you looking at? If you don't want to go in through China, then you can go reach Lhasa overland from Nepal, or fly in from elsewhere, but again, you require the permit. My plan is to head into India also, after doing a little bit of trekking in Nepal.

Todd Hey Jessica, the 'talk' forum is a bit confusing, but we're working on it. I think what happened is that you posted a comment under 'General Talk' on the 'talk' page. Whereas, if you want to comment on someone's post on a Trip, you must do it on the trip page. We structured it that way so people would have to visit a trip before asking questions about it on the 'talk' page. :)
