Name Trek Minya Konkka in Sichuan, China

This trip is organized by Gyalthang EcoTravel in Shangri La, Yunnan. I have done 3 treks in Tibetan regions with this company and have had wonderful experiences. My friend who owns the business has put together an itinerary to do a 24 day journey in Sichuan and Yunnan, to include a 12 day trek on remote Minya Konkka. This mountain range lies southwest of Chengdu, Sichuan and was once thought to be taller than Mt Everest. It is clad with hanging glaciers and surrounded by Tibetan culture. The trek route will be part of the ancient Tibetan pilgrimage route. The journey will begin in Chengdu with a visit to a panda sanctuary and exploring the Old Town. On the second day we drive to Kangding and then onward to the trail start. The trail follows a river valley up to a high pass (over 15,000ft). Along the way we pass many nomad camps and will have opportunity to see yaks and share butter tea with the nomads. After taking an extra day to acclimatize, we cross the pass and descend along another river valley. We then take a detour up a side valley, climbing to Minya Monastery (rebuilt after the cultural revolution). We will spend an extra day here exploring the monastery and the high country. The final days of the trek are spent returning down the valley and climbing one more high pass before meeting our vehicles. After spending a night in a hotel, our journey will take us on a drive westward across the grasslands of the Kham Tibetan Plateau. Along the way we will have chances to visit with nomads and tour monasteries in Litang and Batang. We continue westward to the Yangtze River Gorge, following it south to Shangri La, Yunnan. In Shangri La we will visit two very old monasteries (one built during the period of the 5th Dalai Lama). We will also explore the Old Town of the Tea-Horse Caravan Trail. After having our farewell dinner with our hostess at the Tara Gallery Cafe, we will have a return flight to Chengdu to meet our international flight connections. The trip cost includes all land transportation, lodging, most meals, animal support for the trek, camping gear, and entry fees. For a detailed itinerary, please contact me. This is going to be a wonderful journey and I am looking for 6 others to join me as we explore a remote landscape and heartwarming Tibetan culture! Tashi Delek (wishing you happiness and success)!

Ben Grabowski Hey, I'm really interested in going on a trip like this. I just graduated college from Pitt and am looking for a 3-4 week trip that will be completely different from what I'm used to. Please email me at bengrabowski@gmail.com if I could still join! Thanks, Ben
