I have not booked any thing yet as want to save as much as possible and find a fun bunch of people to travel with. Drop me a message if you are all or if any are still interested. As im keen to get the ball rolling now. I promise i will be quicker at replying. Thank you all. Marcia
Ian [EagerExistence] Getting your TEFL/TESOL is a great idea. I've met so many travellers in non-English speaking countries who are making ok money just teaching English (and travelling on weekends/weeks off). Its a perfect start if you are on a tight budget.
How big a group are you looking at travelling with? You realise the larger it gets, the more disagreements on things to go and places to see? I've hosted a few day trips, and couple of weekends away while living in Spain... free of course... catered for travellers. And when the numbers got up over 4 or 5 people started to break off into sub-groups, and disagree with the itinerary.
Just offering my tips from the last 10 months of SOLO travel. I'm following your trip though, to see how it all goes down, and what happens... or troll for an invite ;) Also, in 10 months, I probably spent 2 weeks actually alone. Just another tip.
A final note, you don't need RTW tickets. They give limited flexibility (and only 12 months to use them). Why not be brave and just get point-to-point tickets? Or, do RTW based on the long-haul intercontinental flights.. and figure the smaller hops out independently.
If I don't find a pose to travel with, I'm looking at Australia -> India -> South America next year. SOLO again.
Marcia stacey Hi Ian any tips or advice you can give is much appreciated as I'm new to this whole thing. I think your right the smaller the group the better. Plus there's going loads of exciting people to meet on the journey. I'm finding hard to find some one to travel with. My friend let me down and the others are either to scared or would rather go on a short holiday. But I'm very much going ahead with it, hence why I started group and joined this site.
With the Tesol are there any specific websites you know of to take it and how long etc and price?
In regards to the flights in your experience do you think it's best then to just get your flights as you go? And book a one way in advance to the first destination I'd like to go to first, which is Thailand? Is this the best and cheapest way of doing it rather than booking a Rtw ticket. Are there any websites to look out for to book my ticket to Thailand? What's point to point tickets?
Also I want to go to Australia and south America too, wouldn't mind India either also china but Thailand is first on my list would like to stay there for a few months.
I'd love to find some one on here that wants to start this journey with me.
Ian [EagerExistence] Marcia,
It's good to see you're logging in regularly now. A lot of these GT trips get made, and never followed up.
The thing is, if you don't find someone to travel with, it's still ok. You have resources like GT to meet up with people along the way. You also have CouchSurfing, and every hostel has like-minded travellers (quite a few solo as well). I've been travelling solo, and I still prefer to share the adventure (which I do as often as I can).
You've got a lot of followers on here, maybe you can send an email out to them all and find out who is just looking, or who is serious about starting with you.
There is TESOL and TEFL. They look like the same thing to me. Coming from Australia, I was only aware of TEFL.
I did a quick google search, and you can do the course in Thailand. From what I found, Bangkok for example, the course is USD$1000. But shop around, you can probably do it where you are now cheaply too. Just make sure its TESOL/TEFL certified.
With flights, you can't really do cheap and best. Its one or the other. If you want flexibility. Not knowing what dates you are moving on, where you are going, who you are meeting. Then I recommend point-to-point tickets. Which means pay as you go (what I do). If you know what months you will be where, and when you want to return home, you can get a RTW. Some RTW tickets are flexible and let you change dates. But I dont like this way of travel so much. What if you fall in love in Thailand, and want to get a visa and stay? It happens. There are plenty of websites out there for getting cheap tickets. But plane is not the only way to travel. I like SkyScanner the best, but Kayak is also really popular (and many more).
Thailand is beautiful. I can't wait to go back. Sorry mate, I won't start the trip with you. But I'd be keen to join up in South America or India. Depending on dates. You can keep in touch with me through my website (but its down right now, I broke it) EagerExistence.com
Marcia stacey Have decided I'm going to book my ticket in the next month or so to Thailand leaving in July/august time so I no this trip is defo happening. I don't want to keep talking about it I want to make it happen. I'm just going to get a one way to Thailand and go with the flow and book to each destination I want to visit as and when depending on the funds and how much work I do. All though I'm a bit wary of travelling on my own I'm sure ill meet people along the way. Is there any one who will be in Thailand around this time who can show me around help me out? Or anyone that's serious about going and possibly travelling at the same time as well it's now or never :)
