Lauren Great idea Monica, sounds like an exhilarating trip. I remember the Paris-Dakar Rally got re-located to South America a few years ago because it was too dangerous going through West Africa. I've always wanted to do it since I saw the Charley Boorman documentary on doing the Dakar race on a motorbike. Not sure if I can do this year though...

Monica Well if plans change and you can come with, just let me know :)

Lauren Hey Keith. Great idea and trip. Congrats on becoming location independent! Todd and I (Globetrooper founders) have been travelling this way for the last 10 months. We're in India at the moment for 3 months, but we've been thinking later this year we might head to Thailand and stay for a few months. Maybe we'll be there at the same time?

Keith Mander Howdy Lauren! I'm super impressed that you've been able to put together this super site on your travels - sounds like you're living my dream! I've just sexed up the description to make it a little more interesting - will be great to see if others are in the same boat. Shall defo let you know if I end up heading in your direction!

Lauren One tip I can give you about researching places to go - check forums for internet speed and connectivity. Especially if you're working on a few websites while you travel, it can be really frustrating if you can't find a decent internet connection.

Todd
Todd Hey Keith. Lauren makes a good point about Internet speed. South America was fine, but India is a bit more tedious since you need to use 3G and almost nowhere has WiFi (except Mumbai). Looking forward to Thailand though; apparently as cheap as Internet, but with decent Internet speeds.

Lauren Hey annie, where do you plan on starting August?
annieehyett
annieehyett Probably around mid august/early September. I am pretty flexible. My plan was to try and find a companion first but it is turning out to be a lot harder than i would have guessed. Hopefully i will run into some free spirits while volunteering who may want to go forward with me.

Lauren Wow, what a cool trip! I've always wanted to scooter through the French & Italien Rivieras. But won't be able to join you at that time. Good luck, have fun!

Lauren Wow, impressive Asher. You should have a chat with Kelsey about her Mongol horse trek: http://www.mongolianexperiment.com/

Lauren Hey Div, we climbed Kili a couple of years ago with a company called Team Kilimanjaro, I would definitely recommend them. We've also written a few tips about the climb here on the blog, check them out here: http://globetrooper.com/tanzania

Lauren Tianamen Square and some ducky sound good - on the agenda. I'm getting good at haggling so will hit Silk Alley or some Hutongs. And then maybe I'll hit Houhai at night for dinner and drinks. Will look into Forbidden City vs. Summer Palace vs. Great Wall

Lauren An amazing experience. We were lucky enough to go on the 1st expedition and really had a once-in-a-lifetime journey that we'll never forget. You can also read more about it here: http://globetrooper.com/notes/adventure-turns-to-expedition-peru/
Zoracle
Zoracle How do you unfollow a trip? I just got back from summitting Kilimanjaro and although I made it, high altitude does NOT agree with my body's naturally low saturation rate, so I am out for Everest.
Lauren
Lauren Hey Zoracle, congrats on conquering Kili. To unfollow a trip just go to your profile page (green button at the top of any page when you're signed in), click on 'Trips' in the left side bar, and then a list of all the trips you are confirmed on and following are there and you can remove yourself from them. Btw, did you take any altitude pills?

Zoracle
Zoracle THanks, it was tough. I didn't bring any with me, but by the 5th day I took someone else's diamox. I only took one for the next 3 days, but it really helped me sleep. without them, I woke up every 5 minutes taking deep breaths. The diamox made my body breath faster naturally, so i could sleep.

Lauren Great idea, I love it. Let's see if I can come up with any others: Perth to Port Douglas. Timbuktu to Tehran. Madrid to Mumbai. Fairbanks to Fort Worth. Quito to Quebec. Ok this is too much fun, and quite addictive!
