Todd Sounds like the job was creating more stress that it was worth. Must have been something in the tap water :) Yeah, plans change every week depending on opportunities that pop up. We've been in Cusco now for 6 weeks and exploring all over Peru. Heading to Bolivia on Monday (if the strikes in Puno subside), then down to Argentina. Would love to hear about Cuba when you get back.

mtlmike Go for chocolate brownies at a place called Qosqopolis Cafe, found on Carmen Alto 202 in San Blas (which is a nice neighbourhood anyway to stroll through). Tell the dude, who is terribly nice and speaks english well that Mike from Montreal Canada sent you, though it has been two years now. I did send him a lot of people. He makes a decent brownie, south am standards.

comehikewithmike Hey Mira, I'm learning French at the moment and just found a site called LiveMocha.com. Looks good. I've done a few courses. But I think the real value with be talking with locals.

mtlmike Argentina is wonderful. Went to Buenos Aires, Bariloche, El Calafate, El Chalten, Puerto Madryn, Salta, and Mendoza regions. If any of that interests you, let me know and I'll give my thoughts on it concerning what I liked or didn't like. By the way, you'll love it!

mtlmike, I am still pouring through lonely planet and other guides mainly focused on areas to stay, how to rent a place, guest houses, etc. Any advise on BA would be helpful. I would prefer a quite barrio to stay in. I am more into cafes, parks, walking, art galleries, tango, plus I am vegetarian. I'd be interested in knowing what you did not like. Did you spend any time in Palermo? I'm not sure of the other places you mentioned although the Mendoza region appeals, as well as El Calafate. Iguazu Falls is also on the list.
I've been told that it is best to go during the Argentine spring or fall and to avoid summer.

Todd Hey Mira. We just arrived in Montreal and were able to rent an apartment within three days. It was good to stay in a hostel and check out the different areas of the city before settling on a place. It turns out our first hostel was in the worst part of town, so it paid to arrive before choosing longer term accomm. Interesting wat you say about summer too, since we were planning to go then. hmmm.
