I think I need to update this info, I am currently out on a bicycle tour, current location US. I will be making my way by bicycle to various parts of the world. Anyone want to join me? I want to connect with my larger human family around the globe. I hope to inspire cancer survivors to the possibilities that exist in their lives. I also prefer to leave a very small carbon footprint so I will be avoiding planes.

PMaz11 Hi, I'm coming from the UK to the US at the start of a RTW trip probably in October, but have lots of similar interests in terms of countries I am interested in. (Although time is short my itinerary is definitely not fixed). What is the scope for overlap where our plans overlap?

travelinhappy Not sure where our plans will overlap. I don't know what your plans are. I leave Pennsylvania about the time you hit the states. Do you know where you will be heading first?

PMaz11 Possible overlap in South America? US plans at the moment: NY, CN, MA, VT as route to Canada, but need to investigate OH and IL where have contacts.

Trey Taking a RTW trip has always been a dream of mine, so I’m seriously thinking about taking such an adventure while I’m still healthy enough to do so. But I don’t see how it would be possible to spend a year traveling for only $8000. Is this really possible? Last year I had to undergo treatment because a patch of melanoma had penetrated my skin, but thankfully there are no signs it spread. Would you be willing to tell us what type of cancer you had?

Todd Hi Trey, not sure if you've seen our recent blog post about cost of living around the world (http://globetrooper.com/notes/cost-of-living-thailand), but $8k is possible if you stay in the right places. However, flights can quickly eat into that. I doubt you could travel though Western Europe and Australia on only $8k for the year though. In Asia and South America you can spend $300/month or less on accommodation. So that would be less than $4k for the full year. So although $8k is possible, I think it would be tough.

travelinhappy Trey I am glad to hear that you are fine. My issues were with my cervix. You can learn more about what I am doing by visiting my website www.unlimited-smileage.com I will be doing a lot of camping and those types of things so yes I believe this can be done relatively inexpensively. I agree with Todd the biggest expense will be airfare and I am also considering other ways to cross the ocean.

travelinhappy I haven't had much luck finding travel partners either. I have most of my RTW panned. How are you traveling and what type of volunteering are you going to do?

Todd Hi travelinhappy, sometimes it's easy on RTW trips to find people for small sections. Or to meet up in particular cities. There are travel bloggers all over the world, so if you land in a city and want some company, try a quick search on Google for bloggers in the area and they're usually more than happy to catch up. We've met lots of them on the road in South America and India. Hope that helps.

travelinhappy Have you seen the trip I posted..maybe we can hook up and at least do part of the RTW together. I am looking to do this on a shoestring budget and I am actually in the process of of selling off all that "shit you don't really need". Let me know what you think.
