Poland is a country located in Central Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east, and Russia, Lithuania, and Latvia to the northeast. Poland covers an area of 312,679 square kilometers (120,726 square miles) and has a population of over 38 million people. The capital and largest city is Warsaw. The official language of Poland is Polish. The country has a rich culture with roots in both Western and Eastern European traditions. Poland is also home to a number of World Heritage Sites, including the Historic Centre of Warsaw, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, and the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
