Lawrence, Indiana, may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of fun weekend getaways or places to travel in the United States, but it’s actually a lot of fun if you give it a chance. This small town, situated halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati along I-74, doesn’t have as many tourist attractions as other cities in the area, but it has enough to fill up an entire weekend with something fun to do every single day.

This ‘N’ That Antiques

Merchandise is always changing so it’s always a treat to visit if you are into collecting stuff. It’s a great place to start your search for antique decor that doesn’t break your budget.

Winding Ridge Golf Club

Winding Ridge Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course located just south of Lawrence, Indiana. Golfers are sure to love playing at Winding Ridge. With excellent fairways and greens, as well as wonderful views, you’ll want to play Winding Ridge again and again. If you’re excited about golfing this is a must-try.

Williams Covered Bridge

Located west of downtown Lawrence, directly off State Road 46, is a treasure for both local and regional architecture buffs. The Williams Covered Bridge was built in 1879 and spans about 240 feet over Lick Creek. It’s one of only two remaining covered bridges in Indiana—and it’s currently on its third set of historic slate shingles.

Fort Harrison State Park

Take some time to enjoy all that Fort Harrison State Park has to offer. There are plenty of trails here for hikers and mountain bikers alike. There’s also a 9-hole golf course and plenty of facilities for birdwatchers.

The park is even home to a nature center where you can learn more about Lawrence’s history. They do a host of events throughout the year like Marathons and horseback riding so check out the website for more information. Arts for Lawrence is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote quality arts programming and arts education for young people of all ages. The list of things you can do with Arts for Lawrence is almost as long as it’s a list of programs and events. Check out their website to plan your visit.

Eve’s Garden Deli

Eve’s Garden Deli is the First Black-owned Deli in the whole of Indiana. Myka Gurvitz is the owner of Eve’s Garden Deli but she is supported by her entire family.

Myka and her husband affectionately named their sandwiches after their family members. They Serve mouth-watering sandwiches and salads with a touch of Eve’s special sauce. A definite must-try in Lawrence.

Lawrence Community Gardens

Lawrence Community Gardens is Empowering volunteers, youths, and adults, to become more active, learn to grow their own food, and make healthier food choices. The main purpose is to give back to the community Food Pantry and any and all donations from any events will directly benefit the Gardens.

Why not get involved in a little charitable work while you are on vacation. Give a little of your time, chat with the locals and teach your little ones the value of giving back.

Indian Lake

One of Lawrence’s most cherished natural resources in Indian Lake. This large body of water is located on Fort Benjamin Harrison and backs up to a nature preserve on its northwestern side. It also connects to Lake Monroe which allows boaters access to Bloomington through a series of lakes and rivers that stretch down southward into Indianapolis. Visitors can tour Indian Lake by boat or canoe or they can access it at a public boat ramp where swimming and fishing are permitted.
