Pico Mountain

Located about 30 minutes away from Rutland City, Vermont, is Pico Mountain.  The mountain’s season runs from mid-December through late March and has a variety of terrain options and offers excellent snow conditions. 

There are plenty of ski trails for beginners and intermediates and some expert-level runs that test even seasoned skiers and snowboarders.   The area covers over 30 kilometers and is serviced by seven lifts! 

Head up to Pico Mountain and have fun mastering any of their slopes.  Try Pico’s longest run, “Pike,” it’s a fan favorite.

The Paramount Theater

The Paramount Theatre is the prime location for entertainment and events in Rutland City, Vermont.  Built and operated in 1914, the Opera was known as the most beautiful building of its time with beautiful Victorian interior decor.  

They have moved with the times and hosted great performers like the great Houdini, Ethel Barrymore, and opera shows, eventually hosting the filming of great movies such as gone with the wind. The theater also served as a place to celebrate and support soldiers during world war II.  

The Theater has since closed, passed ownership, and was restored to its original glory in 2000.   Once again, the Paramount Theater shines brightly and proudly boasts shows to support the arts, culture, and education.  Check out their venue and enjoy a show.

Deer Leap Trail

Deer Leap Trail isn’t just a trail—it’s also a great tourist spot for people who want to get an up-close view of deer (and possibly moose!) grazing in the forest. 

The trail is 1.5 miles long and connects Willoughby State Forest to Chipman Pond.  It’s not very steep, so it can be enjoyed by hikers of all ages.

Hathaway Farm

Hathaway Farm is well known for their 13-acre corn maze providing hours of fun and giggles in getting lost and found again, you will cross bridges and hunt for punches to complete the game, and of course, there are exit signs along the way should you want to end the fun early. 

Try their mini maze for your little ones. The Farm was once a trendy potato farm back in the days and produced high-quality maple syrup. Both the barn & farmhouse are on the National Historic Registry, and there are writings on the walls from the old Potato days. 

There is also a petting zoo and if you are visiting in spring and summer, they have a beautiful nursery with a vast display of beautiful flowers and fresh produce.  A must-visit in Rutland City, Vermont.

Wonderfeet Kids Museum

Wonderfeet Kids Museum is one of Vermont’s most popular children’s museums. It’s located within Rutland City Park and features hands-on exhibits like legos, life-size blocks, a luminescent cave, and pretend play diner, to name a few.  

Who knows, maybe your little ones might find the inspiration to be the next engineer or chef.  When visiting Rutland City, Vermont, bring your kiddies to this museum; they will thank you.

The Chaffee Art Center

The Chaffee Art Center (CAC) is one of the best things to do in Rutland City, Vermont. The CAC is a place where kids and adults can learn about and also attend a paint event and have a unique experience every time they visit. 

They offer classes each week that are led by well-respected teachers who have multiple years of experience teaching art. Some unique pieces are chosen to be on display along with many others.  They rotate the art, so it is always interesting to see them. 

The building and grounds that houses the museum itself is an excellent piece of history to visit; it was built in 1895 and restored in 1961 to serve as the home of this art center.   The house is also rented out for special occasions and also to have a lovely photo shoot. 

Rutland Murals
